Using Indoor Rock Climbing To Stay Fit

When it comes to staying healthy and fit, there are a lot of different ways to do it, but a lot of these ways are also quite dull! After all, you can only walk around your neighborhood or run on a treadmill so many times before you need to start looking for something new. One of the best ways to keep your body in shape is by rock climbing, and rock climbing has never been safer or easier than it is now that indoor rock climbing facilities are gaining prevalence.

Rock climbing uses all of your upper body muscles and also causes you to use your legs a significant amount, making it one of the best full-body workouts. And even though outdoor climbing – with no harness, and with no serious padding underneath you – can be a dangerous sport, indoor rock climbing is actually extremely safe.
In order to climb at most indoor rock climbing gym, you need to take a “top rope” proficiency course, which will teach you how to belay (which means adding friction to the rope that your climbing partner is using, which keeps them from falling far if they slip off the wall) for your partner. The costs of indoor climbing are pretty minimal once you have the basics down, as most of these places allow you to climb whenever you want once you have paid a small monthly fee.
You will also want to invest in some good climbing shoes and a chalk pouch if you begin to climb regularly. You can easily find chalk pouches priced at around $10, and if you do your shopping on Amazon, you can get good climbing shoes for a really reasonable price. Clothes for rock climbing can probably be found in your closet as well – all you really need are some sturdy pants or shorts and an old shirt!
